On this afternoon, the teachers and students of Hosen Gakuen Elementary came together on zoom to create an online, real-time collaborative art piece.

We began the session by exchanging energetic greetings from both sides, before the agenda was explained. All participants had paper and markers prepared, and were prompted to draw a large circle in the center of their paper. They were then given a few minutes to further craft that circle into anywhere that their imagination took them.

Following this, all participants were divided into smaller groups in Zoom breakout rooms, where they could present their art to each other and give a brief explanation of their creation.

After a few minutes, all participants were brought back to the general session. Those who found strong commonalities between their art and those of others in their zoom breakout sessions were prompted to raise their hands. However, most were surprised to find that even from something as simple as a circle, so many unique ideas arised.

From here, we moved into the second, main activity. The participants were all given a few minutes to draw a green vine from top to bottom of a sheet of paper, resembling something from the story, Jack and the Beanstock. They were also encouraged to customize their vine with any decorations or flowers that they liked.

At last, the participants all held up their art to their cameras. Since zoom was in the mosaic view, and several participants could be seen on one screen at once, they’re vines all appeared to be connected as one single mural.

In a time where so many of us are apart and disconnected from one another, this was a heartwarming activity that linked us all together and gave us the energy to persevere until the end of the state of emergency.

宝仙学園小学校の先生、子どもたちがズームで集まり「繋がる絵を描いてみよう」ということで、協力してその場でアートを仕上げる活動でした。

みんなで元気に挨拶した後、紙とマーカーを用意してもらい、その紙の真ん中に大きなマルを描くように指示をされます。
さらに自分の想像力を使いそのマルを使って自由に絵を描きます。

その後ブレイクアウトルームでグループに分かれ、自分の描いた絵を見せ合い、どんな絵なのかを説明します。

ブレイクアウトルームから戻ってくると、自分とお友達の絵が似ていたら手をあげるのですが、たった一つのマルからこんなにたくさんのユニークなアイデアが生まれるのかと気づき、みんな感動したようでした。

さてここからが本番です。参加者は、新しい紙の真ん中に上から下にかけてジャックと豆の木に出てくるような植物のつるを描くように指示されます。さらにこの自分流に描いたつるの周りを、自分の好きな花で飾るように言われます。

最後にこの絵をそれぞれがズームのカメラの前に掲げます。するとそれぞれの絵がスクリーンの上にモザイクのように現れ、全ての絵が繋がって一つの大きな壁画のように見えます。

今この時期に、私たちはお互いに繋がる機会もなく、バラバラになってしまったように見えますが、この活動を通して繋がれるという、心温まる活動でした。
緊急事態宣言が解除されるまであと少し、この活動を通して頑張れるエネルギーを参加者みんながもらえたことと思います。
